general info

Our organization is 100% volunteer based! We welcome any person that wants to volunteer and we have included the how to process...

FIRST: You will need to complete a background check that is initiated by completing the volunteer application with your e-signature.

SECOND: You will then need to go to www.AYSOU.org and take the online Concussion Awareness course.

THIRD: You will then go to www.AYSOU.org and take the Safe Haven course.

If you have signed up for coaching or to be a referee you will then need to enroll in a class and become certified.

Volunteers

AYSO operates on the support of its volunteers, with 220,000 individuals across the nation ensuring everyone can play. These volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, including current players' parents, siblings, grandparents, former players' parents, neighbors, and even players themselves. They generously offer their time to give each child a valuable experience. Some volunteers continue to support the program long after their children have grown out of it.

Being an AYSO volunteer is a family affair, where parents can join their children and teach the importance of community service. Whole families, including parents, siblings, and grandparents, often get involved.

Coaching and officiating are well-known volunteer roles, but there are numerous other ways to support a team or region. Some volunteer positions take only a small amount of time, but they are equally crucial to the children's experience. No matter your availability, there is a volunteer opportunity for you in AYSO. To learn how you can contribute, please contact us.

California AB 506

Effective January 1, 2022, California AB 506 requires that all administrators, employees and regular volunteers in California MUST have a one-time background check as approved by the California Department of Justice to exclude individuals with a history of child abuse. This form of background check requires live scan fingerprinting.

To clarify, a REGULAR VOLUNTEER is a person who has direct contact with children 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year, which applies to most coaches, referees, team parents, and board members who spend 2 or more hours on the field weekly.

This DOES NOT replace the Sterling Background Check. ALL volunteers are still required to complete the Sterling Background Check when they complete their volunteer application.

Live scans are not transferable between organizations, so if you have completed one for work or for another organization you are still required to complete one for AYSO. Live Scan only needs to be completed once. To register for an AYSO sponsored event or to complete the Live Scan on your own, click here: https://www.ApplicantServices.com/AYSO

Additionally, the law requires volunteers in youth organizations to complete child abuse and neglect reporting training. As a member of US Soccer, AYSO volunteers must now complete Safe Sport training. The link can be found on your volunteer page in your Sports Connect profile. The link is also available here: https://safesporttrained.org/?KeyName=tsVWe36Xa6PS3b5NzOug

Volunteers who do not have the Live Scan and Safe Sport Training complete will not be allowed to volunteer.

Youth volunteers under the age of 18 are exempt from taking Safe Sport Training, the Sterling Background Check, and Live Scan.

aysou

All AYSO Volunteers, including youth volunteers under the age of 18, must take Safe Haven, CDC Concussion Training, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course, and Safe Sport Training (youth volunteers are exempt from completing Safe Sport Training).

Instructions for logging into AYSOU

Safe Sport Training can be completed here: https://safesporttrained.org/?KeyName=tsVWe36Xa6PS3b5NzOug
